The Wat Phol Phao and its golden stupa are standing on a hill, offering a great view over the city of Luang Prabang. The temple is located about three kilometres east of the city, along the road to the airport. The grassy area around the stupa seems to be popular with students. A famous monk called Ajahn Saisamut once teached here. He died in 1992. His funeral was the largest and most well attended monk's funeral in Laos since decades.
