Wat Ong Teu Mahawihan in Vientiane, was originally built in the 16th century. This was a project of King Setthathirat, who also gave orders for the construction of the famous Pha That Luang. Like many other buildings, this temple was destroyed during the Siamese invasion in 1828. It was rebuilt in the 19th century. De name translates to 'temple of the heavy Buddha', a reference to its massive bronze 5,80 meters tall Buddha, the biggest in Vientiane.
