When you want to travel from Thailand to the north of Laos, you are sure to pass by Vieng Phoukha, since this town is on the way between Huay Xai and Luang Namtha. Not many tourists are coming here, although there is plenty to do and see here. You could do some walking tours to the villages of the hill tribes, or you could visit some caves. The Nam Eng is a very big cave and not far from it is the smaller Nam Mai cave. But the town itself also has some interesting sites. For example there is a hill with a temple on top of it, from where you have a good view over the town.
