The Pha That Luang in Vientiane is the national symbol of Laos, and the most sacred Buddhist monument. It is very worthwhile to pay a visit to That Luang. It is said that the stupa is built on the remains of an old Indian temple, dating back from the third century BC. Around the That Luang are some temples and the living quarters of the monks. That Luang is about four kilometres northeast of the centre of Vientiane. If you are standing on top of the Patuxai, the Lao 'Arc de Triomphe', you can see the golden stupa of That Luang in the far distance.

On the Interactive map of Vientiane, the location of That Luang is indicated.
