The south of Laos still sees less travellers than the north. According to some, this helps to give the south more of an authentic feel than the north. This itinerary starts in the very south of Laos and will take you to the capital city, Vientiane. It will take about two or three weeks.

Start you journey in Si Phan Don (four thousand islands), where you can visit the islands Don Khong, Don Dhet and Don Khon. Very spectacular is the Khon Phapheng area, where the Mekong flows into Cambodia in many rapids and waterfalls. Continue to Champasak, where you should at least visit the Wat Phou.. A good starting point for nice trips in the surrounding area, is Pakse, a pleasant riverside city. After that, move on to Savannakhet, a city featuring many colonial buildings. Also from here you can explore some National Parks. Located in a stunning landscape, Tha Khaek is certainly worth a visit. Some interesting caves can be explored around here. Finally, you can end your journey in Vientiane, for more temples, good restaurants and a good massage.
