Traditional coffee roasting
Photo: Coffee Paksong
Paksong is sometimes called the coffee capital of Laos. The town lies at about 1300 meters altitude on the Bolaven Plateau, in the south of Laos. The dark soil here is of volcanic origin, which means it is very fertile. This, combined with the cool climate at this altitude, makes the area ideal for growing coffee. In the Paksong district about 5000 families are involved in coffee farming. Around Paksong, some exceptional nice waterfalls can be visited, for example Tad Yaung or the twin falls of Tad Fane.
