The big reservoir lake of Nam Ngum can easily be accessed from Vientiane. It is located about 90 kilometers north of the city, at the end of route 10. There are many small islands in the lake, that is surrounded by forested mountains. The floating restaurants here serve fish, freshly caught from the lake. Near the lake, there is a large hotel complex, the Dansavanh Nam Ngum Resort, featuring a 18-hole golf course. Because of its vicinity to Vientiane, Nam Ngum is ideal for a day trip. Green Discovery Laos offers excellent day trips, including a boat ride on the lake.
