The Mekong is a river in Southeast Asia. The river is 4909 kilometres long (some source mention 4350 kilometres) and is considered one of the most important rivers in Asia. The river runs through China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Many travellers also choose to take the Mekong highway, for example by taking the slow boat from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang.
