Just about every Laos traveller ends up in Luang Prabang sooner or later. Not surprisingly, because this quiet and friendly city is filled with interesting Temples and surrounded by beautiful nature. Since the 1990's, the whole city is on the Unesco world heritage list. This means for example that large parts of the city are forbidden for trucks and busses, a true blessing for the city.

The city of Luang Prabang is located in Luang Prabang province, at the confluence of the Mekong and the Nam Khan river.

One of the favourite Temples is the Wat Xieng Thong, featuring some beautiful mosaics. Also take a good look at the roofs of the Temples in Luang Prabang, with their long points that almost touch the ground. Don't forget to visit the former Royal Palace, which has now been turned into an interesting museum. Among other artefacts, it houses the Phra Bang, het most sacred and biggest golden Buddha statue of the country. On the same compound, is the building of the Royal Theatre, where you can enjoy traditional dance and music, performed by professional artists.
