Daily life at Don Khong island
Photo: Ricardo Lopes Don Khong is one of the islands of
Si Phan Don, in the south of Laos. It is the biggest and most developed of these islands. Also this island has more hotels than the other islands. This is a good place for hiking, but it is also very easy to explore the island on a bicycle. In the beautiful hilly landscape there are rice paddies and small villages. The biggest settlement on Don Khong island is Muang Khong, where there are several options for
Accommodation. Just outside the village is the oldest temple of the island, the Wat Jon Thong. This temple is surely worth a visit. Not far from there is a holy cave called Tham Phu Khiauw, which houses some old Buddha statues.
