Don Daeng is a peaceful island in the Mekong, in Champasak province, in the south of Laos. It has tranquil sandy beaches, but you can also find some pre-Angkorian ruins here. The people here live their tradional live, with basket weaving, fishing and rice farming.
The Don Daeng area has a rich heritage of many culturally important sites, including a collection of stone Buddha images, an ancient brick stupa, and the nearby ruins of the Tomo Temple. This temple can be reached by boat on an easy half-day trip. Guides from the villages can arrange tours to these sites or ask the the boatmen.
Don Daeng island is not far from the famous Wat Phou, an ancient temple complex and an absolute must-see.
