Ban Xang Hai is a village near the caves of Pak Ou, about 25 kilometres from Luang Prabang. A visit to the caves can easily be combined with a visit to Ban Xang Hai. The name means 'Pottery village', although people here have stopped making pottery. The pots are now imported, to be filled here with Lao-Lao, a highly alcoholic drink made of rice. So if you 'd like to taste it, it might be better not to come here in the morning.
